EU-Canada Free Trade Agreement: What's in it for the Green Economy?

The Belgian-Italian Chamber of Commerce organises the International Conference "EU-Canada Free Trade Agreement: what's in it for the Green Economy?" on 27 June 2013, at the European Parliament, in Brussels, as closure event of an 18-month project funded by the European Union.

The purppose of the conference is to underline the advantages and the opportunities of EU-Canada cooperation for SMEs, with particular attention to the environment and the Green Economy, and to present the institutional perspective on the "Comprehensive Economic & Trade Agreement" (CETA) under negotiation since 2009.

The Belgian-Italian Chamber of Commerce is the primary partner and co-financier of the project with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada. The two Italian Chambers of Commerce have carried out a series of activities in the EU and in Canada, whose aim is to instil the importance of the benefits that the approval of CETA will bring to people and istitutions, especially from the commercial and the environmental point of view.

The Conference is hosted by the German Member of the EP Silvana Koch-Mehrin, who is in charge of the Committee on International Trade and has been involved in the negotiations on the economic and trade agreement between the EU and Canada.

The event is accredited within the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), an initiative of the European Commission, which first take place in 2006, designed to spread best practices, inspire new ideas and build alliances to help meet the EU's energy and climate goals.
